Mail Theft in Bastrop County
Earlier this week, a Bastrop County Patrol Deputy took a report regarding mail theft in Bastrop. The Victim reported that he had 2 packages taken off of his front porch, and had video of the theft. In the video, a male subject is observed taking packages of the front porch and driving a silver GMC pickup truck with an orange toolbox.Later, the same Deputy responded to the 1100 block of FM 969 Bastrop, and met with a witness. With the assistance of the witness, the truck and subject where identified at the location. The subject was detained and questioned. He made admission to the deputy that he was the one on the video taking the packages. A Bastrop County Sheriff's investigator was assigned to the case. After review, the Investigator established that there was a probable cause for issuance of a warrant for Mail Theft, a Class "A" Misdemeanor. The Investigator was able to obtain an arrest warrant.
The Investigator had another case where the same vehicle and subject were observed taking packages off the front porch in the 100 block of Mills Crossing Drive, Bastrop. During that investigation, the Investigator observed several videos which were posted to Facebook and the NextDoor App. hose videos showed the same vehicle and same subject taking the packages.
Further Charges are pending. The Subject was identified as Octavio Garza. He is currently in the Bastrop County Jail in lieu of a $25,000.00 Bond.
