Traffic Stop leads to Felony Money Laundering Charge

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Wednesday around 12:00 noon Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on I-10 on a 2015 white Ford Truck for traffic violations. Upon contact with the driver several criminal indicators were observed. After conversation with the driver Smith was given consent to search the vehicle which was occupied by the male driver. Smith located large speaker boxes under the rear seat of the truck. Smith conducted a search with an X-ray scanner and observed bundles in the speakers. After opening up the speaker boxes Smith located several bundles of cash which he recovered. Assisting Smith on the Scene was Drug Interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann and his canine "Kolt", and Deputy Herman Olvera. Arrested was 24yr old Luis Angel Castillo Jr. of Laredo who was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with Felony Money Laundering. Total amount of money seized is $60,040 cash.
