Fayette County Dispatchers were very busy with 911 calls

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Monday, October 3rd, Fayette County Dispatchers were busy with 911 calls.

It started with a reported van on fire on Interstate 10 eastbound at the 659 mile marker. The Flatonia Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene along with Deputy Herman Olvera. Upon arrival a van was reported fully engulfed being towed behind another van which also was damaged by the fire. On the westbound side of I-10 at the 659  mile marker, an 18-wheeler hit a concrete barricade and a diesel spill occurred, investigated by DPS. Flatonia and Waelder Fire Department were able to get the roadway cleaned up. 

Around 11:18 a.m., a structure fire was reported in Flatonia at 105 W. South Main Street. The Flatonia Fire Department responded and mutual aid was requested from Schulenburg Fire Department, The La Grange Fire Department, and the Waelder Fire Department. The structure burning reportedly contained thousands of books. The building was destroyed by fire and there were no reported injuries. Assisting at the scene was the Flatonia Police Department and Fayette County EMS unit Medic 3. The cause of the fire is unknown.
