Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that recently, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Canine Unit, SGT Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Chevy Traverse on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver, Sgt Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics. Sgt Thumann deployed his canine "Kolt" who alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics. Thumann searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 17 kilos of cocaine in a after-market compartment located in the floor, The Cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.7 million dollars. The driver Julio Cesar Gomex Cruz (41) from Mexico was arrested for felony cocaine possession and booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
