Fayette Co Deputy locates Narcotics on Traffic Stop
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports onSaturday around 10:58 PM, Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop on 1-10 W/B near Flatonia on a dark colored Nissan SUV.Deputy Williams made contact with the driver, Roland R. Champion Jr., and the passenger, Emily Guadalupe Mendoza. During the traffic stop, the driver Champion did not possess a driver’s license. Champion and Mendoza stated inconsistencies in their travel timeline. Deputy Williams requested consent to search the vehicle and Champion denied consent. Officer Byron Powe with the Schulenburg Police Department arrived on scene and deployed K9 Semper to conduct a free-air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle. Officer Powe advised that K9 Semper alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.
Deputy Williams conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle and located a black trash bag behind the driver’s seat. Inside the bag, Deputy Williams located nine bundles containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Arrested was 24 yr. old Roland Champion Jr. and 22 yr. old Emily Guadalupe Mendoza both of San Antonio who were transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance. The total weight of the suspected bundles of Methamphetamines was 20.2 pounds.
