Money Seized during Traffic Stop

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Sunday night around 09:19pm, Deputy Cody Willams conducted a traffic stop on a 2016 Jeep Patriot for a traffic violation on I-10 W/B around the 658 MM.
Deputy Williams met with the driver, 49 yr. old Faliciano Martinez Fernandez of San Benito, Texas. A consent to search the vehicle was given by Fernandez and during the course of the investigation, a concealed exhaust compartment was located by Deputy Williams.
After entry was made into the compartment, Deputy Williams located wrapped bundles of US currency. Fernandez was placed under Arrest and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument and Money Laundering. Total amount of US currency was $64,000.00.
