Burglar Suspect Arrested following Pursuit
In the early morning hours of Saturday September 6, Fayette County Deputies responded to reports of two males in a moving company truck wearing masks and attempting to break into vehicles at a hotel in the 300 block of East I-10 Frontage Road in Flatonia.Deputy Christopher Stansberry located the suspect vehicle traveling on Interstate 10. When he attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled. One male passenger, identified as Raul Duarte (20) of Houston, was taken into custody with the assistance of Schulenburg Police Officer Byron Powe and K9 Semper. The driver fled on foot but has since been identified.
Inside the truck, deputies discovered burglary tools and other evidence linking the suspects to attempted vehicle burglaries. Sergeant Duane Meagher and Deputy James Ulbig assisted on scene.
Duarte was booked into the Fayette County Jail on multiple charges. The investigation into the second suspect is ongoing, so his identity is being withheld at this time.
