Ticket issued for Passing Flatonia School Bus

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on August 28, at approximately 4:00 PM, Deputy Gonzales was dispatched to a serious traffic violation involving a semi-truck and trailer that unlawfully passed a stopped Flatonia ISD school bus on FM 609, while it was unloading a child.
Deputy Gonzales was provided with a photo of the rear of the tractor-trailer. Upon further investigation, Deputy Gonzales was able to identify both the trailer’s license plate and trailer number. Deputy Gonzales was given video footage from the vehicle’s onboard camera system.
The video clearly showed the Flatonia ISD school bus stopped with red lights flashing and both stop signs fully extended, while a child was being unloaded. The semi-truck was recorded passing the stopped bus at a speed of 68 mph, slowing to 52 mph only after passing the bus.
Deputy Gonzales was able to positively identify the driver and has issued a citation by mail for disregarding a school bus while loading/unloading children, a traffic offense under Texas law.
