Structure Fire in Columbus

At approximately 4:50 on May 21, Columbus VFD was paged out to a structure fire. The call was reported by Houston firefighter Nathan Bookout, who noticed a glow while driving to work. He quickly located a double-wide manufactured home fully engulfed in flames, called dispatch, woke up/alerted the homeowners, and conducted a scene size-up before our arrival.
The structure involved was an uninhabited mobile home being used for storage. The homeowners lived in a separate residence nearby. Thankfully, the fire did not spread to the main home.
Upon CVFD arrival, the fire had extended to two nearby sheds. Crews worked diligently to contain and extinguish the blaze. The point of origin was determined to be the double-wide home, and the cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
We are grateful to the responding agencies who assisted on scene: Weimar VFD, Oakridge VFD, Rock Island VFD, Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado County EMS.
