Vehicle Chase in Weimar
Recently, Weimar Police Department's Sergeant Ellis conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of W. Main Street for a vehicle speeding in a designated school zone. Upon approaching the vehicle, which was occupied by an adult driver and a juvenile passenger, Sgt. Ellis detected the odor of marijuana and instructed both individuals to exit the vehicle.Before Sgt. Ellis could initiate a probable cause search, the driver suddenly re-entered the vehicle and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The juvenile passenger fled on foot toward the WHS football field. Sgt. Ellis pursued the fleeing vehicle on Highway 90 onto IH-10 westbound. The suspect reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, posing a significant danger to himself and other motorists.
The pursuit concluded when the suspect attempted to enter westbound traffic while traveling eastbound. Sgt. Ellis successfully executed a tactical maneuver using his patrol vehicle to force the suspect off the roadway and disable the vehicle on the shoulder. Officer Schneider and Schulenburg PD arrived on scene to assist. A search of the suspect’s vehicle revealed narcotics and a firearm. The suspect was taken into custody with minor injuries from the impact, treated at Columbus Community Hospital, and later transported to the Colorado County Jail without further incident.
