Narcotics Arrest in Bastrop County
Recently, Bastrop County's K9 Deputy and his K9 partner Trol conducted a Traffic Stop on a Cadillac Escalade travelling westbound on SH-71. During the stop, the Deputy detected indications that criminal activity was occurring, specifically narcotics trafficking.Bastrop County's K9 Trol was deployed to conduct a "free air sniff" of the Escalade resulting in a positive indication for narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted and during the search, a yellow "Bic" pen box was located that contained a large amount of a white powdery substance. One of the two occupants admitted that the substance was powder fentanyl and extra precautions were taken to limit exposure to deputies on scene.
The substance later tested positive for Fentanyl and had a weight of 367 grams. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled substance 1st degree felony and transported to Bastrop County Jail. The Occupants were identified as brother and sister who had traveled from Austin to Houston to purchase the Fentanyl.
The amount of powdered fentanyl seized had the capability of providing lethal doses to over 180,000 people and a street value of approximately $75,000.
