Traffic Stop East of Flatonia

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports this past Friday around 9:32am Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 GMS Acadia for a traffic violation on I-10 at the 664 MM w/b occupied by two subjects. Once contact was made with the driver who had no Driver's license or proof of insurance for the vehicle. Smith explained to the driver the license plate on this vehicle is a fictitious license plate not for the vehicle. A consent to search the vehicle was given and Smith located a dark colored ski mask, vehicle unlock tools, clear tape, a wedge pump, a key fob, black disposable gloves, and a Autel professional key tool. Smith also located the tools in a backpack on the floorboard of the car. The driver identified as 36 yr old Yubier Darroman Hernandez and the passenger 38 yr old Yonlis Gil Menendez both of Houston did not claim ownership of the tools located in the car. Assisting Smith on scene was Deputy Herman Olvera. Both subjects were arrested for Unlawful use of Criminal Instruments and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
