Press Statement by LGISD
A statement was issued yesterday evening by the Superintendent of LGISD Andy McHazlett.At the end of the school day May 21, the LaGrange High School Administration team received a report of a student with illegal substances in their vehicle. Administration immediately notified the School Resource Officer and escorted the student to the parking lot. The student's vehicle was searched and the student was found to be in possession of illegal substances. The student was also found to be in possession of a handgun. The student was placed under arrest immediately.
A report of the incident has been made to both the City of LaGrange Police Department and the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. LaGrange ISD will fully cooperate with any further investigation that might be conducted by law enforcement. There is currently no threat of imminent harm to LGISD students or staff. The student in question has been removed from campus and is in police custody. LaGrange ISD assures its students, parents, community members, and staff that we have made and will continue to make, every effort to keep our schools safe and secure. A safe and secure educational environment will be maintained of we all continue to work together, just like what happened May 21.
