LaGrange City Pool to remain closed for the Summer Season
The city of LaGrange has issued the following statement, as we approach the summer season, Staff has begun preparations for the operation of the municipal pool, including the essential task of recruiting lifeguards. However, during the inspection phase, a significant issue has come to light regarding the functionality of the pool's pump system. Regrettably, it has been determined that the current pumps are no longer operational and require immediate replacement. The installation of six new pumps and sand filters is required, alongside the necessary upgrades to the electrical system to ensure code compliance.Concurrently, the recruitment of lifeguards has presented unforeseen challenges. While the operational requirement for the pool is for four lifeguards on duty, only two individuals have committed to serving on a part time basis for the upcoming season. This shortfall in staffing, combined with the infrastructure issues, poses a problem to the safe and efficient operation of the pool. Due to these concerns the city staff proposes the temporary closure of the pool for the entirety of the summer season in 2024.
