Vehicle Pursuit and Foot chase
In the early morning hours, last week, Fayette County Deputy Wesly Arrison conducted a traffic stop on State Highway 71 eastbound near La Grange for multiple violations. The driver was identified as Chalin Morgan (24) of Houston, Texas. Morgan admitted to narcotics in the vehicle. Morgan handed over a bag of narcotics to Deputy Arrison.
Deputy Arrison then questioned Morgan if there were any weapons in the vehicle and asked him to step out of the vehicle. Morgan refused and fled eastbound on State Highway 71 towards Colorado County.
The pursuit reached speeds in excess of 130mph, with Morgan turning off his vehicle lighting. The Colorado County Sheriff's Office successfully deployed spike strips, flattening 3/4 of the suspect's tires.
The vehicle stopped just west of the Colorado River bridge and the driver fled on foot into a pasture. Deputies on scene gave pursuit.
After the pursuit, a loaded Glock 22 was located in the vehicle. Deputy Duane Meagher assisted.
After an extensive search conducted by multiple agencies, including the use of an Infrared Thermal Imaging Drone, Morgan was unable to be located. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. There is no reason to believe Morgan was armed with any other weapons when he fled on foot.
