Vehicle Pursuit on Hwy 71
On November 1st, 2023 at approximately 11:50pm Deputies Jason Fowler and Duane Meagher were on routine patrol on State Highway 71 westbound near Halstedt Road. Deputies observed a gray Dodge Durango traveling 94mph in the eastbound lane. The Deputies turned around and the vehicle exited at East Old State Highway 71. The Deputies exited as well and followed the vehicle down East Old State Highway 71. The vehicle continued at high rates of speed. The vehicle then took a left, left the roadway, cut through the ditch and then crossed over Highway 71 through the median and headed back westbound.The Deputies caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 71 near Hatterman Lane. The vehicle slammed on its brakes and came to an abrupt stop. Deputies approached the driver’s window and began ordering the driver out of the vehicle. The driver was refusing to get out of the vehicle. The driver finally exited the vehicle and began actively resisting the Deputies as they tried to place him in handcuffs. A brief struggle ensued and the Deputies were able to get the subject subdued.
The subject was identified as Stephen Greer (33) of Georgetown, Texas. The subject was arrested for Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor) and Resisting Arrest, Search or Transportation (Misdemeanor). During a vehicle inventory, a methamphetamine pipe was located in a locked glove box. Greer had hidden the key to the glovebox in his sock under his foot. Greer told Deputies he knew about the methamphetamine pipe and was trying to hide it. Greer was then charged with Tampering With or Fabricating Physical Evidence (Felony). Greer also admitting to trying to elude the Deputies.
Greer was then transported and booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
