Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Sunday September 10th near Flatonia, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Canine Unit, SGT Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a 2015 GMC Yukon on Interstate 10 at the 663 mile-marker at approximately 9:20am for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver SGT Thumann observed discrepancies in the driver's travel itinerary, route of travel and many other familiar indicators of narcotics trafficking. SGT Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Kolt alerted to the presence of an illegal odor of narcotics emitting from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed an after-market compartment build under the center console. After accessing the compartment approximately 5 kilos of cocaine with a street value of $250,000 was removed. The driver Jose Puentes (31), from Brownsville was arrested for Felony Drug Possession and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
