Previously Deported Subject Arrested for Narcotics

On Wednesday, August 30th at approximately 12:45pm, Schulenburg Officers responded to Shorthorn Express for a report of a person asking for money. Contact was made with the male near his truck and a strong odor of Marijuana was smelled coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted and a bag of THC Gummies was located.
Andres Lopez Mata (22), of Mexico, was arrested for Possession of a controlled substance, the transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center for booking.
Once at the Jail, Border Patrol was contacted due to conflicting identifying documents. It was discovered he has been deported before and should not have been allowed back into the US.
A detainer was issued by ICE and he will be released to their custody once his current case is handled here.
